- "Mrs. Farmer's Front
Porch"
- Growing up in Pascagoula had some distinct
advantages. One advantage and one of my most
cherished memories was dining at Mrs. Bill
(Vergie) Farmer's house. Simply put, her
down-home southern cooking was the best around!
Greeting you as you entered her kitchen was the
apron-clad Mrs. Farmer, who always had a smile
and something pleasant to say, along with the
aroma of freshly baked biscuits and cornbread
which she was sure to offer you before entering
her busy dining area.
-
- After consuming too much of her mouth-watering
dishes, relaxing in the rocking chairs and
talking with friends on the rose garden
surrounding front porch was practically required
before returning to work.
-
- No one better exemplified the Christian,
disciplined work ethic better than Vergie Farmer
and her staff. God made a very few special loving
people--Vergie Farmer is certainly one of them.
Mrs. Farmer still resides in Pascagoula, though
she no longer cooks for the public. If Mrs.
Farmer makes it to heaven before we do, I am sure
she will be at the "Pearly Gates" along
with Saint Peter serving the new arrivals her
fried chicken, lima beans, cornbread and banana
pudding. Now that would be Heaven!
-
- Of all my wife's paintings I like this one best
as it triggers great memories of the best of
Pascagoula.--Thoughts by Don McKee
