- The S. S. Hurricane Camille was a
landmark along the Mississippi Coast and a
reminder of the monster hurricane Camille that
claimed the lives of more than 256 people in
Mississippi and Louisiana The tugboat came ashore
in August 1969 and was originally named the
East Point. The boat soon became a
tourist attraction and was renamed the S.S.
Hurricane Camille. She was a symbol of courage
and strength to all those that lived along the
coast. The ship was slowly rusting and in May,
